The cobblestoned Senado Square has been the bustling city centre of Macau for centuries with the “Leal Senado” Building cross the street; both have been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The name “Leal Senado” (Loyal Senate) was bestowed by Portuguese King Dom John IV in 1654. It was the first municipal chamber in Macau, a function it maintains to the present.

Originally a 16th-century college complex (St. Paul’s College, the first western-style university in the Far East), was destroyed by fire twice remaining the façade of its church in 1835. Since then, the Ruins of St. Paul’s has been perceived as the “acropolis” of Macau; it functions as an altar to the city nowadays. Popular attractions namely Museum of Sacred Art, Mount Fortress and Museum of Macau are just steps away from the ruins.

Up the lane next to the “Leal Senado” Building, travellers are guaranteed to be transferred from the bustling urban centre to a tranquil Portuguese streetscape with decent ambience, peaceful and timeless. UNESCO listed heritage sites, St. Augustine’s Church, Dom Pedro V Theatre, Sir Robert Ho Tung Library are all gathered here; a perfect place for photos or pure relaxation with a book and a cup of coffee on hand.

Travellers who look for adventurous activities cannot miss the 338 metres high Macau Tower. Adults may try the thrilling Skyjump or Bungee jump operated by AJ Hackett; Skywalk can be an alternative for family to take a stroll from the outer rim of the tower and capture the breathtaking panoramic skyline of Macau.
